Paris Chelles Shell Show
The Paris Chelles International Shell Show (Les Rencontres Internationales du Coquillage) features seashells and land shells from all over the world. It is hosted by the AFC, the Association Française de Conchyliologie (French Conchologist Association).
The AFC brings together 500 members and hosts exhibitions throughout France, including the International Shell Show, which attracts hundreds of worldwide collectors and scientists.
Its publication Xénophora is published four times a year, and the website and library are identification resources for amateurs and shell experts.
Every year, organizers invite collectors from around the globe to exhibit highlight shells in their collections at this two-day event.
Exhibitors come from Brazil, Australia, Japan, South Africa, and France, of course, and show their shells at the Centre Culturel de Chelles, located about 20 km east of Paris.
The mission of the AFC is to educate people on the world of shells and to support initiatives to protect endangered species and their environment. The Association connects members of all levels, from beginners to specialists. Regional chapters organize local shell shows, exhibitions, and exchange meetings throughout France.
The association awards two prizes each year in the Shell of the Show competition. One winner is selected by AFC members attending the show and one winner is chosen by the other show attendees.
The 35th annual show in 2025 is on Saturday, March 29, from 9 am to 6 pm and on Sunday, March 30, from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free.
Each year, the show features activities for children such as a shell quiz, shell drawing, exhibits of micro shells, and shell fossil excavation. There are sales of seashells, art, and shelling books.
Visitors can reach Chelles by train, car, or bus directly from the Paris airport. You can download a PDF with detailed travel information to the Centre Culturel de Chelles, including plane, car, train, and bus routes, plus information on dining and lodging options in Chelles.

No live shelling: Be sure shells are empty and sand dollars, sea stars, and sea urchins are no longer alive before you bring them home.
